FAQ's

It's been designed to be simple, much easier:
  • For best results use a junior hacksaw (32Tpi) and mitre block. Also some ratchet cutters can give a quick and clean finish as used by many trade installers. Note 16 x 8mm D-Line can be cut using scissors when lid is open!

  • Remember to leave a space (between D-Line's) equal to the fascia of the accessory. Use the accessory as the template. The accessory will retro-fit into the space.

  • Remember to fit the switch/socket box adaptor (or adaptor tee) before you secure the box to the wall (or else you would have to loosen screw-fixings later).
Yes, use the 16x8mm profile, providing the door frame has more than 16mm depth!

Use 30x15mm or 40x20mm profile for greater capacity where it can blend as a door moulding. For this installation ask your distributor for non-radiused flat bends. These have 90° inside corner so fit easier around top of the door frame … we have these available ex-stock, and will forward to the distributor.

The tapes give a strong bond, but like any tape they will lose effectiveness over a duration. This can occur as elements of the adhesive dry out in room temperatures. Most walls are not perfectly smooth so the bond with the surface is not evenly applied. Also larger capacity D-Line's will be carrying volumes of cables that put excessive strain on tapes.

We do know many installers will use tape only (and risk consequences) for speed and ease of installation, especially on floor quads, 16x8, 30x15mm. As a responsible manufacturer we do however recommend for best practice that installers always use a secondary fixing, for example rawlplugged screws into plaster, say one per 500mm.

D-Line lengths can be recycled. Our trunking profiles use two plastics, namely PVC and TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) and so cannot be reconstituted as a purely PVC product. It can however be micronised and used for example in flooring matting.

D-Line accessories can be recycled and the material used over and over again in the same form.

Yes, though it's colour range is designed to eliminate the need. Our colour range is really popular with Magnolia blending in Magnolia walls for example. D-Line can however be painted with gloss or emulsions. We recommend first use an abrasive as gently spoiling the surface makes it easier for paints to bond.

Yes, an installation can be reversed, but the lid is not a cable retainer assist in this manner. For plumbing, the hinge is normally at the top.

Of course, as a frame or edging it's easier than solid woods with no need to mitre corners for example. It is quicker to fix than wood, and of course looks great with usually no need to paint later. We know of customers who are using D-Line as frames for internal doors.

Yes, we spent a lot of time and trial-and-error achieving the best trade-off between accessibility and security.
D-Line is best opened by applying finger pressure just above the clip mechanism. For the smallest profile (16 x 8) the user can use the groove as a nail-grip.

There is a knack to it, it does not just pop open! Remember its shape, with no sharp edges, makes it child friendly too!

Product selection needs to be determined by cable capacity required. An electrician might add an extra socket by spuring-off an existing socket with only one 2.5mm twin & earth so 30x15 would be ideal. But to fit sockets on a new ring main 2x 2.5 twin & earth would be needed in which case to get around bends for example the 40x20 is recommended.

Table

If running only one or two cables to a socket below then the 30x15 might suffice.

Generally to conceal wiring for screens upto 32" and larger we suggest the 60x30 profile. For screens 30” and smaller we suggest the 50x25 profile. Really it all depends on the volume of cables to contain.

We trust the diagram below will help…

It can be opened and closed thousands of times, millions probably!

Sure, on a gentle radius (but not the quarter sphere!) See installation on Home page where the installer did not want to drill through marble bench. Please see also (if you can notice it!) 30 x 15mm above a skirting board, on D-Line At Home page.

D-Line lengths utilise 'green' PVC in the sense there is no lead in the manufacturing process. Traditional PVC production has used lead as a stabilising agent in the ingredient mix. To achieve a better-flow quality we utilise calcium zinc.

D-Line utilise only virgin plastics to achieve greater control over production quality.

By having socket boxes above or below the trunking our dado solution is far more efficient than traditional flat-front dado type trunkings which in many scenarios prove oversized and materially wasteful.

With a little care and attention to measuring and cutting this shouldn't arise. However any gaps should be filled using decorators caulk or similar.
