As part of a modernisation programme for Knotts Flats development in Tynemouth, the rewiring of 120 tenanted properties required careful planning by leading affordable housing provider, Home.
Tenant satisfaction was paramount, with a consultation process highlighting that tenants wanted a speedy installation that minimised disruption yet provided a quality of finish that would be as neat and inconspicuous as possible!
Using D-Line quadrant trunking for coving and cornice drops, and above box skirting (for pipes) provided the perfect solution. D-Line flush-fit accessories were used to connect the runs, and interface with the D-Line semi-circle profiles across ceilings and up to socket risers.
The alternative of recessing behind walls would have meant decanting the tenants and redecorating works also; while traditional trunkings would have looked unfashionable in the properties.
D-Line has been installed by local contractor On-Site Solutions. Manager David Seaton commented ‘We have developed with D-Line a simple but effective system. As the installer it is reassuring to be fitting products you know the tenants like.’
Graeme Nelson, Contract Surveyor from Home said … ‘With concrete walls in the properties the interiors would obviously be affected by any new surface wiring. We specified D-Line as it satisfied our demand for a functional and aesthetic choice. The success of the D-Line can be measured by the positive comments from our very satisfied tenants.’
A final word from Margaret Meek a resident, 'We are really pleased with the finished result! The work was done without fuss and we are delighted how the cables are hidden'
